The birthplace of Scotland's modern tartan industry.
Back in the 1850s, Bannockburn's Wilson Mills employed hundreds of individuals during the peak of production.
Today, only two buildings from that era still stand, as the workers' residences and earlier mills were demolished in the 1950s and 60s. Dr. Murray Cook, the lead archaeologist in charge of the Rampant Scotland excavation project, emphasizes the site's remarkable significance, which has been relatively underappreciated until now.
