How to Adopt a free-roaming Cairngorm Reindeer in Scotland
Undertaking a three-month Journey to Dundee on the RRS David Attenborough
The Cairngorm Reindeer Herd established in 1952 and is the only free-ranging herd of reindeer in the UK, located in the stunning Cairngorms National Park. These majestic animals were introduced to Scotland from Sweden to promote conservation and education about wildlife.
Today, the herd roams the beautiful, rugged terrain of the Cairngorm mountains, where visitors can observe them in their natural habitat. Guided tours provide an opportunity to learn about their behaviour, habitat, and the challenges they face in a changing environment.
The reindeer are not just a fascinating attraction; they play a vital role in the ecosystem, contributing to biodiversity in this unique landscape. Their presence adds a magical touch to the Cairngorms, making it a must-visit destination for wildlife enthusiasts and nature lovers alike.
BUT did you know that you can adopt a reindeer?
“Reindeer Adoptions make an unusual Birthday present for someone who has everything and an ideal Christmas present – supporting Father Christmas’s reindeer!”
Over the last few years our adoption scheme has been a lifeline for us, and will hopefully help keep the reindeer herd afloat for many years to come. If you are in a position to help support us, you can adopt our very special free-roaming herd. All of us here at the Centre are incredibly grateful for your support - Cairngorm Reindeer
